Avoca, Texas facts for kids
Avoca is a small, unincorporated community located in Jones County, Texas, in the United States. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
You can find Avoca on Texas State Highway 6, where it crosses Farm to Market Road 600 and Farm to Market Road 1636. It's about 8 miles (13 km) southeast of Stamford. Avoca is also part of the larger Abilene metropolitan area.
The Story of Avoca
Avoca was officially established in its current spot in 1900. This happened when a railroad line was built and extended to that exact location. Before 1900, the town was a few miles away. It was first known as Spring Creek. Later, its post office was called Avo. The name "Avoca" comes from this older name, Avo.
As of 2022, Avoca has two churches: the Avoca Baptist Church and the Avoca United Methodist Church. It also has the Lueders Avoca High School. There is no post office or other businesses in the community.
Learning in Avoca
Students in Avoca attend schools within the Lueders-Avoca Independent School District. High school students, from ninth to twelfth grade, go to the Lueders-Avoca High School. Younger students, from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, attend classes at the Lueders Campus.

- Charles Stenholm lived in Avoca for some time. He was a very important person because he served as a member of the United States House of Representatives. This is part of the U.S. Congress, where laws are made for the country.
