Azure Mountain Fire Tower

Azure Mountain is a mountain in the Adirondack Park in New York, United States. It stands about 2,518 feet (767 meters) tall. You can find it near Blue Mountain Road in the town of Waverly. It's a popular spot for hikers and nature lovers.

The Azure Mountain Fire Tower

On top of Azure Mountain, there is a tall steel fire tower. This tower is about 35 feet (11 meters) high. It was built in July 1918 to help spot forest fires.

The tower was restored in 2002, making it safe for visitors to climb. In 2001, the tower was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical site. Many people visit Azure Mountain each year, with about 8,000 to 10,000 visitors.

You can even find a special message on one of the tower's legs. It says, "W. H. Finley, Keeseville, 7/29/1918." This shows who helped build it and when.

Azure Mountain Friends

The Azure Mountain Friends is a group that helps take care of Azure Mountain. They also help people learn about the mountain.

One of their cool programs is the Summit Interpreter program. Volunteers are on the mountain top most weekends from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. They help visitors learn about the area and answer questions.

The group also has a scholarship program for high school and college students. Students can apply for a $500 scholarship. In return, they volunteer as interpreters on the summit for five days. The Azure Mountain Friends work with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to protect the mountain.
