The St. Regis River is a long river in northern New York, United States. It is about 86 miles (138 km) long. In Quebec, Canada, it is known as rivière Saint-Régis.
This river flows into the mighty Saint Lawrence River. It meets the Saint Lawrence at a place called Saint Regis. The river basin, which is the area of land that drains into the river, includes some beautiful lakes. These are Upper St. Regis Lake, Lower St. Regis Lake, and Saint Regis Pond. These lakes are part of the Saint Regis Canoe Area. The river is also a great spot for fishing, especially for trout.
What's in a Name?
The name "rivière Saint-Régis" was officially recognized in Quebec on December 5, 1968. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is like a special committee that names places in Quebec.
