Añora's History
Añora began as a small village that was part of another town called Torremilano. This happened around the end of the 1300s.
Becoming an Independent Town
In 1553, Añora became its own separate town. From that time on, it was one of the "Seven Towns of the Valley of Los Pedroches." The other towns were Pedroche, Torremilano, Torrecampo, Pozoblanco, Alcaracejos, and Villanueva de Córdoba.
The Marquessate of Carpio
For a period between 1660 and 1747, these seven towns were part of something called the Marquessate of Carpio. This was like a special area ruled by a marquess, a type of noble. Añora's exact borders were not officially set until the early 1900s.
A Famous Resident
Añora is also known as the birthplace of Marcos Rodríguez Pantoja. He was a child who lived alone in the wild Sierra Morena mountains. This area is now part of the Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro Natural Park. His amazing story of living by himself in nature was even made into a film called “Entre lobos” by director Gerardo Olivares.
