Bertie Charles Forbes (born May 14, 1880 – died May 6, 1954) was a famous Scottish-American journalist and writer. He is best known for starting Forbes magazine, a very popular business magazine.

Early Life and Education
Bertie Charles Forbes was born in a place called New Deer in Scotland. His father, Robert Forbes, was a storekeeper and tailor. Bertie went to University College, Dundee, which was part of the University of St Andrews at the time. This is where he learned many important skills for his future career.
Starting His Journalism Career
After finishing his studies in 1897, Forbes began working as a reporter. He wrote for a local newspaper and also wrote editorials, which are articles that share the newspaper's opinion. He did this until 1901.
In 1901, he moved to Johannesburg, South Africa. There, he worked for a newspaper called the Rand Daily Mail. He learned a lot about journalism from its first editor, Edgar Wallace.
Moving to America
In 1904, Bertie Forbes moved to New York City in the United States. This was a big step in his career. He first worked as a writer and financial editor for the Journal of Commerce. This job helped him learn more about business and money news.
Later, in 1911, he joined the Hearst Corporation, a large newspaper company. He wrote columns that appeared in many different newspapers. After two years, he became the business and financial editor at the New York American. He stayed there until 1916.
Founding Forbes Magazine
Bertie Charles Forbes had a big idea in 1917. He wanted to create his own magazine focused on business and finance. So, he started Forbes magazine. This magazine quickly became very well-known.
He was the main editor of Forbes magazine until he passed away in 1954. In his later years, his two oldest sons helped him. They were Bruce Charles Forbes and Malcolm Stevenson Forbes. They continued his work and helped the magazine grow.
Other Achievements and Legacy
In 1942, Forbes also started an organization called the Investors League. This group helped people who invested their money.
Bertie Charles Forbes passed away on May 6, 1954. His body was brought back to his home country of Scotland. He is buried in the New Deer Churchyard in Aberdeenshire. His magazine, Forbes, is still very popular today and continues to share important business news and stories.
