BB&T Center (Sunrise) facts for kids
The BB&T Center is a large building where many exciting sports games and events happen. It is located in Sunrise, Florida. This arena first opened its doors on October 3, 1998. Today, it is best known as the home ice for the Florida Panthers, a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Over the years, this arena has had several different names. When it first opened in 1998, it was called the Broward County Civic Arena. From 1998 to 2002, it was known as the National Car Rental Center. Then, from 2002 to 2005, it became the Office Depot Center. After that, it was called the BankAtlantic Center from 2005 to 2012.
The BB&T Center is a big place! It can hold 20,737 people for basketball games. For hockey games, it can seat 17,040 fans. Besides the Florida Panthers, other sports teams have played here too. The Florida Pit Bulls, a basketball team from the ABA, played here from 2005 to 2006. The Florida Bobcats, an arena football team from the AFL, also called this arena home from 1999 to 2001.
