Bjorn "BJ" McKie was born on April 7, 1977. He is an American former professional basketball player. Today, he works as an assistant coach for the Wake Forest team.
BJ grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. He went to Irmo High School and played college basketball. He played for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks men's basketball team. In January 1999, he became the Gamecocks' all-time leading scorer. He passed the record set by Alex English. The college honored him by retiring his number 3 jersey in 2005. BJ's son, Justin McKie, also played basketball at Irmo. He then played four years at South Carolina, just like his dad.

BJ McKie had a long and successful career in basketball. He played for many teams in different leagues. He also became a respected coach.
Playing in America
After college, BJ McKie was chosen by the Connecticut Pride team. This team was part of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He played for the Pride from 1999 to 2001. In 2001, he was even chosen to play in the CBA All-Star Game.
In the 2001–02 season, McKie played for another team. He joined the North Charleston Lowgators. This team was in the NBA Development League. The Lowgators are now known as the Florida Flame.
Playing Around the World
BJ McKie also played basketball in many other countries. He played for teams in different leagues around the world.
- In France, he played for BCM Gravelines.
- He played for Keravnos in Cyprus.
- In Germany, he played for Avitos Giessen and TBB Trier.
- He also played in Italy for Zarotti Imola, Pepsi Caserta, and Nuova Pallacanestro Pavia.
- Later, he played in Israel for Maccabi Haifa Heat and Hapoel Afula. He left Hapoel Afula in 2010.
While playing in Germany, McKie was a Basketball Bundesliga All-Star in 2004. He was also named the German League's Best Offensive Player that year.
Coaching Career
After his playing career ended in 2010, BJ McKie became a coach. He started as an assistant coach in 2011.
- From 2011 to 2017, he was an assistant coach for Charleston Southern.
- From 2017 to 2020, he was an assistant coach for East Tennessee State.
- Since 2020, he has been an assistant coach for Wake Forest.

- He was a German League Top Scorer two times (2003, 2004).
- He was a German League All-Star in 2004.
- He was named the German League Best Offensive Player in 2004.
