Baby Races was a fun game show that aired on The Family Channel. It ran from September 12, 1993, to March 6, 1994. After new episodes stopped, you could still watch reruns until August 27, 1994. The show was hosted by Fred Travalena, and Gene Wood was the announcer. Robert Sherman was the main producer. The show was filmed at the Disney-MGM Studios in Walt Disney World in Florida. This studio is now called Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Gameplay Fun: How the Show Worked

On Baby Races, young children came with their parents to play in different challenges. Two teams competed in each episode. It was a race to see which family could earn the most points!

Exciting Challenges: The Games Played

The show featured many unique and funny games. Here are some of the challenges:

  • Sandbox Golf - Kids played miniature golf. They used tiny golf clubs to hit a golf ball into a hole.
  • Cow Catcher - Children rode on their parents' backs. Their goal was to gather toy cows and put them into a small fence.
  • Paint by Numbers - Kids threw sponges shaped like numbers. These sponges were dipped in paint, and they threw them at their parents!
  • Sit On It - Parents built sandcastle towers using buckets. The children then had to knock down these towers by sitting on them.
  • Spill the Beans - Children balanced plates of beans on their heads. They then had to dump the beans into a bowl held by one of their parents. The amount of beans collected decided the score.
  • Wacky Woodpecker - Kids wore a cone-shaped paper "beak." They used this beak to pick up more beaks from two "trees" on the stage.
  • Worm Toss - Children tossed toy worms one by one. They threw them across a mat, which looked like water, into oversized pants worn by their parents.
  • Anteater Antics - Children tried to pick up magnetic ants. They used a special magnetic beak to do this.
  • Thermometer Ball - Parents lifted their children up and down. The kids then "slam dunked" small basketballs into a tall tube.

Most games had a 45-second time limit. The first game, where kids competed directly, sometimes lasted 30 seconds. Each item collected or completed was usually worth one point. In the last game for each child, items were worth two points!

Prizes and Awards: The Toy Store

At the end of the show, every child received a certificate. This certificate showed their total score from the games. Then, they got to pick a prize from a special "toy store." This store was set up in front of a big video screen. The adults who participated also received prizes for playing!
