Baddo is special because she is the only Visigoth queen known to have signed important government and church papers. This shows that she was involved in politics and had some power in the kingdom.

About Queen Baddo
Her Family Background
Historians are not completely sure about Baddo's family. Some old writings, like those by Isidore of Seville, mention that King Reccared I had a son named Liuva II with a woman who was not a queen. This has made some historians wonder if Baddo was Liuva II's mother.
However, many modern experts believe Baddo was Reccared I's only official wife. They think it was unusual for Visigoth kings to marry common people. Some also suggest that Baddo might not have had a son, and that Liuva II was made heir to the throne even though his mother was not the queen.
Her Marriage to the King
We don't know the exact date when Baddo married King Reccared I. It couldn't have been before 584. Before that, Reccared was supposed to marry a Frankish princess named Riguntha. This marriage was planned to improve relations between the Visigoths and the Franks. But Riguntha's father, King Chilperic I, died, and a war started, so the marriage never happened.
It's possible Reccared I married Baddo soon after 584. However, it's more likely their marriage happened after Reccared became king in 586. He tried to marry another Frankish princess, Chlodoswintha, but that also didn't work out. So, Baddo and Reccared I probably got married around 586 or 589.
Her Role as Queen
We don't know when Queen Baddo died. She likely passed away before her husband, King Reccared I. It's also not known if Reccared I married anyone else after Baddo's death. Her importance comes from her unique role in signing official documents, which was very unusual for a queen at that time.
