The Badger Face Welsh Mountain sheep is a special type of Welsh Mountain sheep. It's known for its unique face markings, which look a bit like a badger's! In Welsh, it's called Defaid Idloes. This breed of domestic sheep is raised in Wales.

These sheep are very tough and can live in hilly areas. They are good at having many lambs, often twins or even triplets, when conditions are right.

There are two main kinds of Badger Face Welsh Mountain sheep:

  • The Torddu (which means "black-bellied") has a white coat. Its face and belly are dark. This type is more common.
  • The Torwen (which means "white-bellied") has a black body. It has a white belly and white stripes above its eyes.

In both types, the female sheep (called ewes) do not have horns. The male sheep (called rams) do have horns. While these sheep do grow wool, they are mostly raised for their meat.

What Makes Badger Face Welsh Mountain Sheep Special?

This breed is incredibly strong and can easily graze on rough hills and mountains. They are well-suited to the tough weather in Wales.

Size and Weight

When they are fully grown, male rams usually weigh about 55 kilograms (121 pounds). Female ewes are a bit smaller, weighing around 45 kilograms (99 pounds). Their sturdy build helps them thrive in challenging environments.
