Badgini facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Badgini (also spelled Bajini) was a small sultanate on the island of Grande Comore. A sultanate is like a kingdom, but it's ruled by a leader called a Sultan. Badgini was one of many small states that existed on Grande Comore before the island became unified.

What was Badgini?

Badgini was a territory that had its own ruler, a Sultan. It was located on Grande Comore, which is the largest island in the Comoros archipelago. The Comoros are a group of islands in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of East Africa.

Its Independence and End

Badgini was an independent sultanate for many years. This means it ruled itself and was not controlled by any other country or larger state. However, this changed in 1886.

In that year, a powerful leader named Sultan Said Ali bin Said Omar took control. He was the Sultan of Bambao, another sultanate on Grande Comore. Sultan Said Ali worked to unite all the different sultanates on the island into one single, larger state.

When Sultan Said Ali unified the island, Badgini became part of this new, larger Ngazidja Sultanate. This meant Badgini was no longer independent.

Who Ruled Badgini?

The rulers of Badgini came from a specific family group known as the M'Dombozi clan. A clan is a group of families who are related to each other and share a common ancestor. The M'Dombozi clan held power in Badgini for a long time, guiding its people and managing its affairs until the island was unified.
