Bahawalnagar District facts for kids
Bahawalnagar District (Urdu: ضلع بہاولنگر) is an important area, called a district, in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The main city and capital of this district is Bahawalnagar. It is located about 192 miles south of Lahore. The Satluj River flows on its northern side, about 6 miles away.
The Story of Bahawalnagar
Long ago, Bahawalnagar was a small village known as Rojhanwali. It had only a few simple huts and shelters. This old village of Rojhanwali still exists today, about 1.5 miles north of the current Railway Station.
A big change happened in 1895 when a railway station was built there. It was first called Rojhanwali Railway Station. This station became a very busy place, connecting Bahawalnagar with other cities like Bhatinda. It was a major railway junction, meaning many train lines met there.
Before the partition of India and Pakistan, this station was extremely active. Trains traveled from Karachi all the way to Delhi, passing through Bahawalnagar. Passenger trains also ran to places like Fazilka and Ferozpur. The railway even had a special place for train engines, called a locoshed, and two places for people to relax.
How Bahawalnagar is Managed
Bahawalnagar District covers a large area of 8,878 square kilometers. To manage such a big area, it is divided into smaller parts. These smaller parts are called tehsils. The district has five main tehsils.
Each tehsil helps to manage the local areas and provide services to the people living there. Here are the five tehsils in Bahawalnagar District:
- Bahawalnagar Tehsil
- Chishtian Tehsil
- Fort Abbas Tehsil
- Haroonabad Tehsil
- Minchinabad Tehsil
