Bakary Soumaré (born 9 November 1985) is a former professional footballer from Mali. He played as a defender. Bakary played for teams in the United States, France, Germany, and Canada. He also played twelve games for the Mali national team.

About Bakary Soumaré's Life
His Early Life and School
Bakary Soumaré was born in Bamako, Mali. When he was two years old, his family moved to France. He grew up in Saint-Denis, a town near Paris.
At age sixteen, Bakary moved to New York City. He went to La Salle Academy, a Catholic high school, for four years. He earned a degree there. Later, he received a scholarship to attend the University of Virginia. He studied there for three semesters before becoming a professional soccer player.
Playing for Different Clubs
Starting with Chicago Fire
In 2007, the Chicago Fire picked Bakary as the second player in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft. He made his first game appearance on May 27, 2007. This was in a 0-0 tie against Real Salt Lake.
Bakary became a regular player for the team. During the 2008 season, he was even nominated for the MLS Defender of the Year award. In 2009, he received a red card in a game against Dallas. Later that year, he had a disagreement with his coach, Denis Hamlett, during a game.
Playing in France
In August 2009, Bakary joined the French club US Boulogne. He signed a four-year contract. He played his first game for them on August 19, 2009. This was a match against Bordeaux.
In March 2010, Bakary received a red card in a game against Paris Saint-Germain. At the end of that season, Boulogne moved down to a lower league, Ligue 2. Bakary became the team captain for the next season. He scored his first career goal on October 29, 2010, against Reims. He scored his second goal in his last game of the season. Overall, Bakary played 65 league games for Boulogne.
Time in Germany
In January 2012, Bakary went on loan to the German club Karlsruher SC. He played there until the end of the 2011–12 season. He made his debut on February 5 in a win against Erzgebirge Aue. However, his season ended early because of a knee injury.
Joining Philadelphia Union
Bakary returned to Major League Soccer (MLS) in June 2012. He signed with Philadelphia Union. Philadelphia made a trade with Vancouver Whitecaps FC to get him. Bakary played his first MLS game since leaving Chicago Fire on August 13, 2012. It was a game against his old team. In September 2012, he had a check-up for his knee after a big surgery in April.
Back to Chicago Fire
After playing against his old team, Philadelphia traded Bakary back to Chicago Fire. This happened on May 23, 2013.
With Montreal Impact
Bakary's second time with Chicago was not as successful. The club decided not to renew his contract for 2015. In December 2014, Montreal Impact chose him in a special draft. He officially joined the Impact on January 6, 2015. He asked to leave the club in July 2015.
Moving to FC Dallas
In July 2015, Bakary was traded to FC Dallas. This trade involved Kyle Bekker moving to Montreal.
Playing for His Country
Bakary Soumaré once hoped to play for the United States. He thought he would become an American citizen by 2009. When that did not happen, he decided to play for Mali. He made his debut for Mali in 2009.
He was part of the Mali team for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. He played in two games during this tournament.
