History of Bakers Neighborhood

Bakers has an interesting past and was once known by a couple of different names: Bakers Station and simply Baker.

How Bakers Got Its Name

The community of Bakers was named after the Baker family. They were the first owners of the land where the neighborhood now stands. It was common in the past for places to be named after the families who originally settled or owned the land.

The Old Post Office

A long time ago, in 1875, a post office was opened in the area. It was first called "Bakers Station." A post office was a very important place back then, helping people send and receive letters and packages. It was a central spot for the community.

A few years later, in 1882, the post office's name was changed to just "Baker." It continued to serve the community for many years until it finally closed down in 1922. Even though the post office is gone, the name "Bakers" has stuck around for the neighborhood.
