Balabhaskar Chandran (born July 10, 1978 – died October 2, 2018) was a talented Indian musician. He was a great violinist, composer, and record producer. He was especially known for mixing different types of music, called fusion music, in South India.
Balabhaskar came from a family of musicians. His uncle, B. Sasikumar, who was a master of Carnatic music, introduced him to instruments when he was only three years old. Balabhaskar started his professional music journey at age 12. He became a music director for the Malayalam film Mangalya Pallakku in 1998. At 17, he was the youngest music composer in the industry. In 2008, he won the Bismillah Khan Yuva Sangeetkaar Puraskaar for his amazing violin playing.

Balabhaskar's Music Journey
Balabhaskar was a child prodigy, meaning he was very talented from a young age. He started performing on stage when he was just 12 years old. He became the youngest music director in the Malayalam film industry at 17. This was for the movie Mangalya Pallak.
His music for the albums Ninakaai and Aadyamai are still very popular romantic songs. Balabhaskar was also very skilled in Carnatic music, a classical music style from India. He had a special way of connecting with his audience. This made him a favorite for big stage shows and classical concerts.
Working with Other Musicians
Balabhaskar performed with many famous musicians from India and other countries. Some of these included Ustad Zakir Hussain, Sivamani, Louis Banks, and Hariharan. He also performed violin duets with his teacher and uncle, Shri B. Sasikumar, in Carnatic concerts.
Latest Music Projects
In 2011, Balabhaskar released his first instrumental fusion album called let it B. This album featured well-known musicians like Sivamani and Louis Banks. Let it B mixed different music styles such as rock, jazz, and hip-hop with Balabhaskar's Indian violin. The album even used special Sanskrit lyrics to help promote Sanskrit as a language.
Balabhaskar also created a collection of calming Carnatic songs called Bhajati in 2011. He added his unique style to these traditional songs, giving them an international feel.
About Balabhaskar's Life
Balabhaskar was born on July 10, 1978. His father, C. K. Unni, was a postmaster, and his mother, Santhakumari, taught Sanskrit. On December 20, 2000, he married his longtime girlfriend, Lakshmi. They had a daughter named Thejaswini Bala, who was born on April 21, 2017. Singer Madhu Balakrishnan is Balabhaskar's first cousin.
Balabhaskar's Passing
On September 25, 2018, Balabhaskar, his wife, and their daughter were in a car accident near Pallippuram. Sadly, their daughter passed away. Balabhaskar was seriously injured and taken to Ananthapuri Hospital. He had two surgeries and his condition was getting better. However, he suddenly passed away from a heart attack on October 2, 2018.
Awards and Recognitions
Balabhaskar received the Bismillah Khan Yuva Sangeetkaar Puraskaar in 2008. This award was given by the Kendra Sangeet Natak Academy for his excellent instrumental music, especially his violin playing.
