Baltasar Brum is a town in the Artigas Department of northern Uruguay. It is named after a former president of Uruguay, Baltasar Brum.

Where is Baltasar Brum?

This town is found in the northern part of Uruguay. It sits south of a hill called Cuchilla Guaviyú. You can reach it by taking a road east from Route 3. This road also leads to a spa town called Termas del Arapey in Salto Department. The town is about 35 kilometers northeast of the spa. Baltasar Brum is also a place where train tracks split. One track goes to Bella Unión, and another goes to Artigas.

The History of Baltasar Brum

The town had a different name before. It was first known as "Cabellos." It might have been the village "Jacinto R. Sant-Anna." This village was officially recognized in 1918. It was located near a train station called "Estación Isla de Cabellos."

In 1932, the group of houses around "Estación Cabellos" was officially declared a "Pueblo" (village). Later, in 1956, the town was renamed. It got its new name, Baltasar Brum, after a famous President of Uruguay.
