Baltimore Orioles (19th century) facts for kids
The Baltimore Orioles were a famous baseball team from the 1800s. They played in two big leagues called the American Association and the National League. The team started in 1882 and stopped playing in 1899. Many of their players became very famous and are now in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
A Team of Champions
This team was incredibly good! They finished in first place for three years in a row, from 1894 to 1896. They also won a special championship called the Temple Cup twice, in 1896 and 1897. This showed how strong and talented the team was during those years.
Famous Players
The Baltimore Orioles had many amazing players. Several of them later joined the Baseball Hall of Fame. This means they were some of the best players in baseball history! Two of these great players were John McGraw and Hughie Jennings. They played important roles on the team, especially on the left side of the infield. Both McGraw and Jennings later became very successful managers for other baseball teams.
