The Baltimore Ravens Cheerleaders are a cheerleading and dance team for the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are a professional football team in the National Football League (NFL). This cheerleading squad is special because it's co-ed, meaning it has both female and male members.
The female cheerleaders focus on dance routines. The male cheerleaders perform exciting stunts, like lifts and tosses. This is similar to traditional cheerleading. The group started in 1998. Today, it has 48 members. This includes 20 stunt team performers and 28 dancers. The squad performs at the Ravens' home stadium, M&T Bank Stadium.
The squad's director is Tina Galdieri. She was a cheerleader at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. She also cheered for the Barcelona Dragons in the World League of American Football. Tina Galdieri also led the University of Maryland's cheerleading team to a national championship in 1999. The Ravens cheerleaders also have a "Lil Ravens" summer program. Boys are welcome to join this program too. The group also makes many appearances at parties and events all year.
The Baltimore Ravens also have another group called The Baltimore Ravens Playmakers. This promotional squad also makes appearances around Baltimore. They give away tickets to a special area at M&T Bank Stadium called The Flite Deck. The Playmakers are at all home games. This squad currently has 18 female members. They train at the Maryland Twisters, an All Star Cheerleading gym, on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
