The Sweet Story of Bamsemums
How Bamsemums Began
The very first bear-shaped, chocolate-covered marshmallow candy was created in 1962. It was invented by the Bouquet d'Or chocolate factory in a town called Ascq, which is now part of Villeneuve-d'Ascq in France. Back then, these cute candies were known as 'Petit ourson', which means 'little bear' in French.
Other Bear Candies
Over time, other candy makers started making their own versions of these popular bear-shaped treats. For example, a company called Nidar began making them in 1975. This shows how much people loved the original idea!
A Growing Sweet Business
In 2003, the chocolate factory in Villeneuve-d'Ascq was bought by a company called the Cémoi Group. After this, the number of bear candies made each year grew a lot! By 2012, they were making an amazing 3,000 tonnes of these sweet bears every year. That's a lot of candy!
Special Celebrations
To celebrate 40 years of these little bear candies, a special collector's box was made. It was designed just for a fancy shop in Paris called Colette. This shows how special and loved these candies are!
