How Bamsemums Began
The very first bear-shaped, chocolate-covered marshmallow candy was created in 1962. It was made by the Bouquet d'Or chocolate factory in Ascq, France. This town is now known as Villeneuve-d'Ascq. The candy was originally called 'Petit ourson', which means 'little bear' in French.
Growing Popularity
Over time, other candy makers started to create their own versions of this popular bear-shaped treat. For example, a company called Nidar began making their own in 1975. This shows how much people loved the original idea!
A New Owner and More Bears
In 2003, the chocolate factory in Villeneuve-d'Ascq was bought by a company called the Cémoi Group. After this, the number of Bamsemums candies made each year grew a lot. By 2012, they were making 3,000 tons of these gummy bears every year! That's a lot of sweet treats.
Special Celebrations
To celebrate 40 years of these little bears, a special collector's box was made. It was designed just for a fancy shop in Paris called Colette. This shows how special and loved these candies have become.
