Nidar is a famous Norwegian company. They make and sell many delicious sweets! Their main candy factory is in Trondheim, Norway. Nidar is part of a bigger company called the Orkla Group.

About Nidar

Nidar is one of the biggest sweet makers in Norway. They sell a lot of candy every year. In 2003, they sold over 1 billion Norwegian kroner worth of sweets. That's a lot of candy! Around 600 people worked for Nidar in 2003. By January 2005, Nidar made about 31.4% of all the sweets sold in Norway.

Nidar's History

Nidar started way back in 1912. It has always been based in Trondheim, Norway. Over the years, Nidar joined with other candy companies. This happened mostly in the 1970s. Because of this, Nidar now continues the traditions and products of three other Norwegian candy companies:

  • Kiellands Fabrikker A/S, from Oslo, started in 1891.
  • Lorentz Erbe & Søn A/S, from Trondheim, started in 1899.
  • Bergene A/S, from Oslo, started in 1906.

Popular Nidar Products

Nidar makes many well-known sweets. Here are some of their famous products:

Krembanan

Krembanan is a chocolate-banana candy bar. It is shaped like a banana! The first Krembanan was made in 1957. It still looks the same today. This bar has a layer of gel and a layer of banana cream. All of this is covered in yummy chocolate. Every Krembanan bar weighs 35 grams. Nidar still uses the original machine to pack these bars. This machine has been working since 1957! It is the oldest machine Nidar uses.

Nero

Nero is a special chocolate and liquorice candy bar. It has a liquorice-flavored jelly inside. This jelly also has aniseed and fennel oil flavors. The jelly is covered in a layer of dark chocolate. This chocolate is 45% cacao.

Smash!

Smash! is a unique chocolate snack. It has salty maize cones covered in milk chocolate. This mix creates a super tasty combination. It is both salty and sweet, light and crispy! Smash! is mostly sold in Norway. You can also find it in Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.

Troika

Troika is a chocolate sweet made by Nidar AS. It has three different layers. That's why it's called Troika! The name comes from a Russian word meaning "a group of three." The top layer is soft raspberry jelly. The middle layer is a truffle. The bottom layer is marzipan. The whole bar is covered with dark chocolate. Troika was first launched in 1939. It was originally called "Geletrøffel."
