Bancroft is a town in northwest Kingsbury County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 19 at the 2010 census.
Contents
History
Bancroft had its start in the late 1880s when the railroad was extended to that point. The town most likely was named after L. L. Bancroft, a local newspaper publisher. A post office was established at Bancroft in 1889.
Geography
Bancroft is located on the west bank of Redstone Creek and approximately seven miles north of U.S. Route 14.

As of the census of 2010, there were 19 people, 10 households, and 6 families residing in the town. The population density was 82.6 inhabitants per square mile (31.9/km2). There were 13 housing units at an average density of 56.5 per square mile (21.8/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 94.7% White and 5.3% from two or more races.
There were 10 households, of which 10.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.0% were married couples living together, and 40.0% were non-families. 40.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.90 and the average family size was 2.50.
