The Bankers Row Historic District is a special area in Logansport, Indiana. It's called a historic district because it has many old buildings that are important to the area's history. This district includes 20 unique houses. They are all located in a residential part of Logansport.
These homes were built between about 1875 and 1925. You can see cool styles like Queen Anne and Italianate designs. The district is important because it shows how Logansport grew and changed over time.
Logansport became a successful town in the 1840s. This happened when the Wabash and Erie Canal was built. Later, in the 1850s, the first railroad came through. Both the canal and the railroad helped the town's businesses boom. Locals started calling these homes "Bankers Row" in the 1980s. This was because many people who worked in banking and finance lived there long ago.
The Bankers Row Historic District was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. This means it's recognized as a place worth protecting for its history.
Exploring Bankers Row
The Bankers Row Historic District is a line of old buildings. They are all on the northeast side of Eel River Avenue in Logansport, Indiana. The houses face the street. The Eel River is right behind them. These homes are built on a small hill. This keeps them safe from the river's floodwaters.
The buildings are set back a bit from the road. There are only a few empty spaces between them. Most of these historic homes were built between 1890 and 1900. This historic district is on the edge of the old downtown area. The south side of Eel River Avenue is next to the Point Historic District.
