Dryandra tenuifolia var. tenuifolia |
Banksia tenuis var. tenuis is a special kind of plant. It is a variety of the larger plant group called Banksia tenuis. For a long time, this plant was known by a different name: Dryandra tenuifolia var. tenuifolia.
In 2007, two scientists, Austin Mast and Kevin Thiele, made an important change. They decided that all plants in the Dryandra group should now be part of the Banksia family. This meant the old name for our plant, Dryandra tenuifolia, had to change. Since the name Banksia tenuifolia was already being used for another plant, Mast and Thiele had to pick a brand new name for this variety.
Like other plants in the Banksia ser. Dryandra group, this plant is only found in one specific place. It grows naturally in the South West Botanical Province of Western Australia. This means it is "endemic" to that area, which means it doesn't grow anywhere else in the world.
