Banning General Hospital was a special hospital for soldiers in Banning, California. It was built in 1943 during World War II. Its main job was to help soldiers who were training nearby at the Desert Training Center.
The United States Army first built this hospital. It was very large, with space for 1,000 patients. In 1944, the hospital was given to the United States Navy. It was then called the Naval Convalescent Hospital, Banning. A "convalescent" hospital helps people recover after an illness or injury.
The hospital was used until 1948. After the war, it was no longer needed. All the buildings were taken down. The land, which had been leased, was given back to its original owners.
