Banquete (pronounced bang-KET-ee) is a small community in Nueces County, Texas, United States. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for statistical purposes.

Banquete is located where State Highway 44 and FM 666 meet. It's about 23 miles west of a larger city called Corpus Christi. Don't mix up Banquete with Rancho Banquete, which is another community a few miles to the west.

In 2010, Banquete was officially recognized as a CDP. At that time, about 726 people lived there.

The Story of Banquete

Banquete got its name from a big four-day party! This celebration honored the completion of a new road. This road connected San Patricio, Texas with Matamoros, Tamaulipas, in Mexico.

The community was also an important stop on the Texas Mexican Railway. During the American Civil War, Banquete was home to Camp Charles Russell. This was a military camp where soldiers were trained.
