Nueces County is a place in the state of Texas, in the United States. In 2020, about 353,178 people lived there, making it one of the biggest counties in Texas. The main city and county seat is Corpus Christi. Nueces County was created in 1846. It got its name from the Nueces River, which flows along its edge and into Nueces Bay. This county is also part of the larger Corpus Christi city area.

Native American History

Long ago, several Native American tribes lived in the area that is now Nueces County. These included the Lipan Apache, Karankawa, Coahuiltecan, Kickapoo, and Seminole tribes. They hunted, gathered, and lived on the land.

Nueces County covers about 1,166 square miles. A large part of this area, about 838 square miles, is land. The rest, about 327 square miles, is water. This means about 28% of the county is covered by water. The county also borders the Gulf of Mexico.
