The Barack Obama Academy of International Studies, often called Pittsburgh Obama 6–12, is a public school in Pittsburgh. It is located in the East Liberty neighborhood. The school is named after Barack Obama, who was the 44th President of the United States.

Pittsburgh Obama is an International Baccalaureate (IB) school. This means it offers a special program focused on global learning. The school helps students become critical thinkers. It also encourages them to be active and caring citizens of the world.

School History and Location

Pittsburgh Obama 6–12 was created in 2009. It was formed by combining two other schools. These were Frick Middle School and Schenley High School. The school first opened in the former Reizenstein Middle School building. It stayed there for three years.

Since the 2017–2018 school year, Pittsburgh Obama has been in the former Peabody High School building. This building is a well-known landmark in the community.

Student Life and Programs

Students at Pittsburgh Obama 6–12 can join many activities. The school is well-known for its involvement in the Pennsylvania YMCA Youth and Government program. This program helps students learn about how government works. They get to act as lawmakers and debate important issues.
