Barbara Albert is an Austrian writer, film producer, and film director. She was born in Vienna, Austria. She is known for creating interesting movies and TV shows.
Barbara studied filmmaking at the Vienna Film Academy. Her first movie that many people saw was called Nordrand. This film showed what life was like for children from Yugoslavia living in Vienna.
Her Work in Film
Barbara Albert is a leader at a film production company called Coop 99. She works there with other talented people like Jessica Hausner, Antonin Svoboda, and Martin Gschlacht. A production company helps make movies and TV shows from start to finish.
Her films have been shown at famous film festivals around the world. For example, Nordrand was shown at the Venice Film Festival in 1999. Her movie Free Radicals was shown at the Locarno Film Festival in 2003. Later, Mademoiselle Paradis was featured at the Toronto Film Festival in 2017. Being chosen for these festivals is a big honor for filmmakers.
As of 2024, Barbara Albert teaches directing at the Vienna Film Academy. This means she helps new filmmakers learn how to make their own movies.
Her most recent project is a TV series called Sleeping Swans. In 2024, this series won third place at the Series Mania Seriesmakers section. It also received a €20,000 prize. The story for the show was written by Ulrike Tony Vahl, and Martina Haubrich produced it.
