History of Barbeques Galore
Barbeques Galore was started by Max Mason in Sydney, Australia in 1977. The company grew quickly. In 1980, it expanded to the United States. They opened a store in Santa Fe Springs, California, near Los Angeles.
For ten years, Barbeques Galore was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. This meant people could buy shares in the company. In 1996, it was taken off the Australian stock exchange. Soon after, it was listed on the US NASDAQ stock exchange.
In late 2005, the company was taken off the NASDAQ. An Australian investment company, Ironbridge Capital, bought it. Ironbridge Capital then split the Australian and US parts of the business. They became two separate companies, but Ironbridge still owned both.
The US part of the business faced tough times. This was partly due to problems in the housing market. In 2008, Barbeques Galore USA had to file for special protection. This helped them reorganize their business. Another company, Grand Home Holdings Inc., bought the US assets later that year.
In 2016, the Australian Barbeques Galore company was bought by Quadrant Private Equity. By 2019, Barbeques Galore's sales were nearly $200 million.
In 2020, Barbeques Galore started to change its brand. They launched a new TV campaign called ‘Now you’re cooking’. They also began opening new stores with a fresh design. These new stores aimed to make shopping more fun. The company also added new products. They even started selling fresh BBQ cuts of meat in some stores.
