Barbie Thumbelina, also known as Barbie Presents: Thumbelina, is a fun computer-animated movie from 2009. It was made in both America and Canada. This film was released straight to DVD, meaning it didn't play in movie theaters first.

It's the 15th movie in the popular Barbie animated series. Kelly Sheridan lends her voice to Barbie in this film. The story is a modern version of the classic fairy tale Thumbelina by Hans Christian Andersen. This movie also shares an important message about protecting our environment.

The Story of Barbie Thumbelina

The movie begins with Barbie and some young students in a big, green meadow. They are ready to plant trees. A girl named Emma finds a very small tree. She wants to plant it, but her friends make fun of her. Barbie helps Emma feel better. She tells Emma that even a small tree can grow into something huge. Then, Barbie shares a special story about Thumbelina.

Meet the Twillerbees

Thumbelina is one of the Twillerbees. These tiny, magical people can make plants grow super fast. They can even make plants appear out of nowhere! Thumbelina is very excited because new Twillerbabies are about to bloom. She makes pretend wings for herself and her two best friends, Janessa and Chrysella. They plan to use these wings to see the Twillerbuds open up and become Twillerbabies.

As they try out their new wings, big tractors suddenly arrive in their field. The three friends hide in the flowers. But they get trapped and are taken to a strange apartment.

A New Home and a Big Problem

The apartment belongs to Makena, a rich and sometimes spoiled girl. The flower bed where the Twillerbees are hiding is placed right in Makena's bedroom. Thumbelina, Chrysella, and Janessa try to find a way back home. Makena's dog, Poofles, chases them around.

Makena comes into her room while the tiny friends are hiding. She talks on her cell phone to her friend, Violet. Makena tells Violet that her parents are planning to build a factory. This factory will be built right on the Twillerbees' beautiful field!

Thumbelina's Big Plan

Thumbelina is very upset to hear this news. She bravely scolds Makena. Makena is surprised but also excited. She always tries to impress Violet. Makena thinks Thumbelina would be a cool thing to show off. The three Twillerbees try to escape from Makena and Poofles.

Finally, Thumbelina sends Chrysella and Janessa home. Their job is to cause a little trouble at the field. This will slow down the factory work. Thumbelina stays behind to talk to Makena. Thumbelina makes Makena promise not to tell anyone about her. Makena also has to convince her parents to stop building the factory. In return, Thumbelina will make special things for Makena.

Friendship and Forgiveness

At first, Makena doesn't take her promise seriously. She even plans to break it! She invites Violet and Ashlynn over. Makena wants to show them Thumbelina, thinking it will make her look special. But Thumbelina gets angry and leaves the apartment. Makena then realizes that Violet and Ashlynn are not true friends. Thumbelina is her real friend.

Makena goes to the field and asks Thumbelina to forgive her. She truly wants to save the field now. Thumbelina forgives Makena. She shows Makena the other Twillerbees and the blooming Twillerbuds.

Saving the Field

That night, Makena, Thumbelina, Janessa, Chrysella, Poofles, and a bird named Lola work very hard. They grow many plants in the greenhouse. The next day, Makena asks her parents to stop the factory project. Thumbelina then shows herself to Makena's parents, Evan and Vanessa. Thumbelina explains about the Twillerbuds that will bloom soon. Evan and Vanessa are convinced. They try to stop Myron, the factory builder, from destroying the field.

With help from birds and other Twillerbees, Myron's workers run away. They think the field is haunted! But Myron is angry and wants to finish his work. He really dislikes flowers. Finally, Makena and Thumbelina arrive and stop Myron. Right after that, Evan and Vanessa arrive to officially shut down the factory project. A team of birds chases Myron away. Makena and her family then watch as the beautiful Twillerbuds bloom.

To make sure no one else tries to build factories there, they turn the field into a special "Reserved Park."

At the end of the story, Barbie and the children are at Makena's new Reserved Park. Barbie tells them that even the smallest person can make a big difference. Makena, though small compared to adults, made a huge difference. And so can the children!
