Barlow, North Dakota facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Barlow is a very small, quiet place in Foster County, North Dakota. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county. You can find Barlow right along U.S. Route 281, a main road that runs through the area.

History of Barlow

Barlow has a simple but interesting history. A long time ago, in 1884, a post office was opened there. This was a really important place for people to send and receive letters and packages, especially in rural areas where towns were far apart. The post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1965.

The community of Barlow was named after a person named Frederich George Barlow. He was a pioneer settler, meaning he was one of the first people to move to and help develop this area. Naming the village after him was a way to honor his role in its early days.
