Barna Hedenhös (which means The Hedenhös Children) is a popular series of Swedish children's books. It was written by Bertil Almqvist in the 1950s. The stories are set way back in the Stone Age. They follow the adventures of the Hedenhös family. While mostly known as books, Almqvist also created a short animated TV series. This TV show was shown on SVT in 1972. There was also a comic book version of Barna Hedenhös. It first appeared in Tuff och Tuss comics in the 1950s. Later, it was remade for the Pelle Svanslös children's comic in the 1970s.

Meet the Hedenhös Family
The Barna Hedenhös books tell the story of a Swedish family. The family includes the dad, Ben, and the mom, Knota. Their two children are named Sten and Flisa. They also have a dog called Urax. The family even has a horse named Hårfagre and a cow named Mura. The books mix real-life events with exciting fantasy adventures.
Stone Age Inventions
In every story, the Hedenhös family invents or discovers things. These are things we know and use in the modern world today. For example, the Hedenhös family moves to an island. They call this island "Stockholmen." This suggests that the Hedenhös family were the first people to live in what is now Stockholm, Sweden. Another fun example is when the Hedenhös family starts the "Urlympiska spelen." This means "Protolympic Games." They even take part in these games. This shows them as the early creators of the modern Olympic Games.
Book Updates and Changes
Some of the Barna Hedenhös books have been looked at again. This is because certain words used to describe people are now seen as hurtful. For instance, in 2013, the publisher Bonnier Carlsen paused re-releasing one book. This book was called Barna Hedenhös upptäcker Amerika (The Hedenhös Children Discover America). The original 1950 version used an old term for Native Americans. This term is now considered offensive. To fix this, a new text was added to the book. This new part describes the first meeting between the Hedenhös family and the Native American tribe. It was changed so it would not cause offense.
Hedenhös on TV: Christmas Calendar
In 2013, it was announced that Barna Hedenhös would be part of a special TV show. It was chosen for the SVT Christmas calendar. This is a popular TV series for children shown every December. The series was called Barna Hedenhös uppfinner julen (The Hedenhös Children Invent Christmas). It started on December 1st on SVT.
