Barnes was once a small community located in Imperial County, California. It was about 15 miles (24 km) southeast of the city of Imperial. Today, Barnes is no longer an active settlement.

Barnes was a place where people lived and worked for a short time. It was known for having a post office, which is a place where letters and packages are sent and received.
The Barnes Post Office
The post office in Barnes was open for a few years, from 1901 to 1903. This means it was active for only about two years. The community was named after Peter Barnes, who was the very first postmaster there. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office.
