Barnim's Story
The Barnim district was created in 1993. This happened when two older districts, Bernau and Eberswalde, joined together.
The area of Barnim is located in a place that used to be a large forest. In the 13th century, important noblemen enjoyed hunting in this forest. The modern district of Barnim covers some of this historic forest land, but it is a bit smaller than the original old region.
Barnim's Special Symbol: The Coat of Arms
A coat of arms is a special design or symbol that represents a family, a city, or a district. The coat of arms for the Barnim district looks a lot like the one from the old district called Oberbarnim.
The main difference is how the colors are arranged. The old coat of arms had a silver top and a red bottom. The current one is divided into four parts. In the right half, the red and silver colors are swapped. The eagle you see in the top part of the coat of arms is a symbol of Brandenburg, the state where Barnim is located.
