Discover the Barringer Farmhouse

The Barringer Farmhouse is a two-story building. It shows features from two old styles. These are the late Federal and early Greek Revival styles. Inside, the house looks very much like it did when it was first built. This means it has kept its original design.

What's on the Property?

North of the main house, there is a barn and a shed. The barn is one and a half stories tall. It was built in the late 1800s. This barn is an important part of the property's history. The shed was built later, in the 1900s. It is attached to the barn's southwest corner. East of the barn and shed, you can find a corn crib. This corn crib also dates back to the 1800s. It was used to store corn.

Who Lived Here?

It is thought that John Barringer bought this land in 1806. The Barringer family was one of the first families to settle in Rhinebeck. Based on how the house looks, experts believe it was built around 1830. We don't know for sure if John Barringer built it. It might have been another member of the Barringer family.

Why is it Important?

Because of its historical value, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This happened on July 9, 1987. Being on this list helps protect important places.
