The Barrington River

The Barrington River is a special waterway in the United States. It flows through parts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. This river is about 6 kilometers (or 4 miles) long. It's a "tidal extension," which means its water levels change with the ocean's tides. There are no dams along its entire length, allowing the water to flow freely.

History of the River

For a long time, the Barrington River was important for collecting shellfish like clams and for boating. However, since May 1998, it has not been safe to fish in the river. This is because the water became polluted, making it unhealthy for people to eat anything caught there. This shows how important it is to keep our rivers clean!

Where the River Flows

The Barrington River starts at a place called Hundred Acre Cove. This cove gets its water from the Runnins River to the north, which flows into Seekonk, Massachusetts. From there, the Barrington River flows southeast. It passes through Barrington, where it meets another river called the Warren River.
