Basel Adra (born June 13, 1996) is a Palestinian filmmaker, lawyer, and journalist. He is known for showing how Palestinian villagers in the West Bank have faced challenges, including their homes being taken down and problems caused by settlers.

Adra helped write and direct the 2024 movie No Other Land. He worked with Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham and activists Hamdan Ballal and Rachel Szor. The film tells the story of the people in Masafer Yatta, where Adra grew up. It shows how Israeli forces have taken down homes and made families leave land they have lived on for many years. The film explains that this land was claimed for military training.

No Other Land was first shown at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival. It won two important awards there: the Panorama Audience Award for Best Documentary Film and the Berlinale Documentary Film Award. In 2025, the film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film, which is a huge honor. This made Basel Adra the first Palestinian filmmaker to win an Oscar.

Basel Adra's Work

Basel Adra is an activist and a volunteer photographer for an organization called B'Tselem. He also works as a journalist for online news websites like +972 Magazine and Local Call. He often works with photojournalist Oren Ziv.

In 2022, Basel Adra was hurt while he was filming the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) taking down a building he had helped build. In 2023, he was held for a short time after he filmed an incident involving an Israeli army security person.

False Claims Against Adra

In 2021, some news groups in Israel, like HaKol HaYehudi and Channel 12, made claims against Basel Adra. They said he set fire to a building in the Hebron Hills and tried to blame others.

However, video from a body camera showed that the fire was actually started by a tear gas canister fired by the Israeli army. The video also showed Basel Adra trying to put out the fire. Since then, these news groups have not shown any proof for their claims against him.
