The Basharat Mosque (its name means “good news” in Spanish) is a special mosque in Pedro Abad, a town in the Córdoba region of Spain. This mosque is very important. It was the first mosque built specifically for worship in Spain since the 15th century. That's when Muslim rule in Spain ended.
History of the Mosque
The idea for the Basharat Mosque began in 1980. The foundation stone was placed by Mirza Nasir Ahmad. He was the leader of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community at that time. This happened on October 9, 1980.
The mosque was finished and officially opened two years later. It was inaugurated on September 10, 1982. The opening ceremony was led by Mirza Tahir Ahmad. He was the fourth leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
