About Bass Hall
The idea for Bass Hall came from a famous pianist named Van Cliburn. He suggested it to Nancy Lee Bass and her husband, Perry Richardson Bass, who were very generous people.
The building was finished in 1998. It was designed by David M. Schwarz and built using limestone. It has a huge dome, about 80 feet (24 meters) wide, painted by artists Scott and Stuart Gentling. The front of the building has two tall angels, 48 feet (15 meters) high, carved from Texas limestone by Marton Varo.
The hall can seat 2,056 people. It was built to host many different types of performances. These include symphony concerts, ballet shows, operas, stage plays, musicals, and even rock concerts.
Who Performs Here?
Bass Hall is the main home for several important arts groups. These include the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Texas Ballet Theater, and the Fort Worth Opera. It also hosts the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and other concerts by Cliburn.
Performing Arts Fort Worth is the group that manages the hall. They also bring their own shows to Bass Hall. These often include big Broadway shows that travel around the country and special family-friendly performances.
Maddox-Muse Center
In 2001, a building next to Bass Hall, called the Maddox-Muse Center, opened. This center has the Van Cliburn Recital Hall and the McDavid Studio, which seats 220 people.
The Maddox-Muse Center also has offices for Performing Arts Fort Worth. This is the non-profit group that takes care of Bass Hall. The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra also has offices there.
Famous Performances
