The Bat is an exciting Vekoma Suspended Family Coaster found at Lagoon Amusement Park. This fun ride is located in Farmington, Utah, in the United States. It's a popular attraction for families looking for a thrilling experience.

Discovering The Bat's History

When Did The Bat Open?

The Bat roller coaster first opened its doors at Lagoon Amusement Park on April 16, 2005. The park actually wanted to open it a week earlier, on April 9. But they needed a little more time to get everything ready.

Where Was The Bat Built?

This roller coaster was built in a special spot. It took the place of an old building called the Lake Park Terrace. This Terrace was moved to Lagoon from the park's first location near the Great Salt Lake.

The old Terrace building was taken down on October 12, 2004. It was getting too old and worn out to fix. Clearing this space made room for the brand-new Bat roller coaster.

What Made The Bat Special?

The Bat was one of four new roller coasters added to Lagoon Park over a 10-year period. It was also the very first ride at Lagoon to use a cool new magnetic braking system. This system helps the train slow down smoothly.

It was the third "family-friendly" ride at the park. This means both adults and kids could enjoy it together. Before The Bat, Lagoon added the Kontiki and Dragon Fly rides in 2004. The Bat was also the first inverted roller coaster at Lagoon. On an inverted coaster, your feet dangle below the track!

Riding The Bat: What to Expect

How Does The Ride Start?

Your adventure on The Bat begins right from the station. The train makes a turn and then goes up a "pinch wheel lift." This lift gently pulls the train up the first hill.

What Happens Next?

After the lift, you'll go through a series of exciting turns and small hills. These parts of the ride twist and turn around a special "bat cave" area. You'll also zoom past other cool themed features and trees.

How Does The Ride End?

The Bat ride comes to a smooth stop. As the train nears the end, magnetic brakes slow it down. Then, you'll safely return to the station. The whole ride lasts about 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Who Can Ride The Bat?

To ride The Bat, you need to be at least 42 inches (110 cm) tall if you're riding with an adult. If you want to ride by yourself, you need to be at least 50 inches (130 cm) tall. These height rules are a bit lower than for some other roller coasters at Lagoon. This makes The Bat a great choice for families!

The Bat's Cool Theme

What Is The Bat's Theme?

As you might guess from its name, The Bat roller coaster is all about bats! The entire ride area is designed to look like a mysterious cave. You might even spot some roosting bats (fake ones, of course!) in the queue area where you wait in line.

What Do The Colors Mean?

The ride's track is painted in cool shades of green and purple. The train itself is black and purple, with bright orange restraints to keep you safe. These colors help bring the bat theme to life.

Special Restraints

As of 2008, The Bat was the only roller coaster at Lagoon that used "over-the-shoulder" restraints. These restraints come down over your shoulders and chest. They keep you secure and comfortable as you fly through the air like a bat!
