The Bath House

The Bath House is a special old building that was built in 1748. It was made for Sir Charles Mordaunt, who lived in a big house nearby called Walton Hall. You can find it close to Stratford-upon-Avon in a place called Warwickshire, England. This building is so important that it's officially listed as a Grade II* historic site. This means it's a really significant piece of history!

What Makes the Bath House Special?

The Bath House was designed by an architect named Sanderson Miller. It has a special room for bathing, but also an elegant octagonal (eight-sided) room above it. This upper room was a place where people could relax after taking their cold baths.

Design and Unique Features

The octagonal room has some very unusual decorations. The ceilings look like they have icicles hanging down. The walls are decorated with real sea shells set into the plasterwork. A talented artist named Mary Delaney created these beautiful shell decorations.

From Neglect to New Life

After the Second World War, the Bath House was not used anymore. It became neglected and was damaged by people. But in 1987, a group called the Landmark Trust took over the building. They worked hard to restore it between 1987 and 1991. Today, the Bath House is used as a unique place for people to stay on holiday.
