Battle and theatre honours of the Indian Army facts for kids
The Indian Army has a long and proud history. Soldiers from the Indian Army have shown great bravery and skill in many battles. Because of this, they have earned special awards called battle and theatre honours. These honours are like special badges of courage given to army units for their amazing achievements in important fights.
The idea of giving battle honours started a long time ago with the East India Company. They gave these awards to their Indian soldiers. Even after India became independent in 1947, the tradition continued. The very first battle honour was "Plassey" in 1829. The newest one is "Kargil" from 1999, given for brave actions during the Kargil War.
