The Battle of Annagudi was a military conflict between the forces of Tipu Sultan and the British East India Company, which took place at Annagudi near Tanjore on 18 February 1782. Tipu won the battle and took an entire detachment as prisoners.
The battle
The Battle of Annagudi took place during the Second Anglo-Mysore War between Mysore, commanded by Tipu Sultan, and East India Company forces, commanded by general Colonel John Braithwaite. Tipu successfully defeated Braithwaite and imprisoned the entire Company force. The Mysore army consisted of 600 horses,1200 infantry and 20 guns. The Company army consisted of 1800 men and 10 guns.
