The Battle of Apóstoles was an important fight that happened on July 2, 1817. It was between soldiers from Portugal and Brazil, led by Francisco das Chagas Santos, and local forces from Misiones, led by Andrés Guazurary, also known as Andresito. This battle took place in a town called Apóstoles.
Before this battle, the Portuguese and Brazilian army had attacked many towns in the Misiones area. They caused a lot of damage. Their next target was Apóstoles, where Andresito and his soldiers were based. Andresito was ready for them. His forces fought bravely, causing many problems for the Portuguese and Brazilians. They forced the Portuguese and Brazilian troops to leave.
Who Fought with Andresito?
Most of the brave people who fought alongside Andresito in Apóstoles were survivors. They had lived through many attacks by the Portuguese and Brazilians. These attacks happened in towns like San Carlos, San José, Concepción, Santo Tomé, La Cruz, Mártires, and San Javier. Many other towns and villages in Misiones had also been attacked.
