The Battle of Choloki was an important fight during the Crimean War. It happened on June 4, 1854, near a village called Kakuti in a region known as Guria. This battle was a big win for the Russian forces.

What Happened at Choloki?

Before this battle, the Ottoman army had lost a fight at Nigoiti. They decided to pull back to Ozurgeti to get their soldiers ready again. Meanwhile, Russian and Georgian troops, led by a commander named Ivane Andronikashvili, were moving forward quickly.

The Ottoman soldiers had set up their positions on the left side of the Choloki river. Suddenly, local fighters from Guria attacked the Ottomans first. After this surprise attack, the Georgian forces started firing their cannons. This led to a strong and decisive attack by the Russian and Georgian armies.

Why Was This Battle Important?

The Ottoman forces were forced to run away from the battle. This defeat stopped their plans to move into another important area called Samtskhe–Javakheti. The Battle of Choloki was a clear victory for the Russian Empire and its Georgian allies.
