Exploring Guria: A Region in Georgia
Guria is found in the western part of Georgia. It shares its borders with the eastern side of the Black Sea, which means it has some lovely coastal areas. The region covers an area of about 2,033 square kilometers (around 785 square miles). In 2016, about 113,000 people lived here.
How Guria is Divided
Guria is split into three main parts, called municipalities. Think of them like smaller districts or counties within the region. Each municipality has its own main town.
- Ozurgeti Municipality: This is the largest municipality and includes the capital city of Ozurgeti.
- Lanchkhuti Municipality: This area is known for its natural beauty.

Famous People from Guria
Many important and talented people have come from the Guria region. Here are a few of them:
- Nodar Dumbadze was a very famous Georgian writer. He wrote many popular novels and stories that are still loved today.
- Pavle Ingorokva (1893-1990) was a respected historian. He spent his life studying and writing about Georgia's past.
- Eduard Shevardnadze was a very important political figure. He served as Georgia's president for several years, helping to lead the country.
- Ekvtime Takaishvili (1862-1952) was another notable historian and archaeologist. He worked hard to protect Georgia's historical treasures.
- Noe Zhordania was the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Georgia from 1918 to 1921. He played a key role in the early days of modern Georgia.
