The Battle of Corpach was an important fight between two powerful Scottish families, the Clan Cameron and the Clan Maclean. It happened around the year 1470. The battle took place in a place called Corpach, which is near Fort William on the west coast of Scotland. In this battle, the Clan Cameron won a big victory over the Clan Maclean.
Why the Battle Happened
This battle was part of a bigger story about land and power. In 1431, a powerful leader named Alexander, Lord of the Isles was set free from Tantallon Castle. He was upset with the Clan Cameron. They had not supported him in an earlier battle in 1429.
As a punishment, Alexander decided to give the Clan Cameron's lands around Fort William to another family, the Macleans. A leader named John Garve Maclean of Coll received these lands. This decision led to a lot of tension between the two clans.
The Battle of Corpach
The Clan Maclean decided to take control of the lands they had been given. They moved into the area. The Clan Cameron, however, was ready to defend their home. The two clans met in battle at Corpach.
The Camerons were led by their chief, Ailean nan Creach. During the fight, a young Maclean leader was killed. His name was Ewen or John Abrach, and he was the son of John Garve Maclean. The Clan Cameron fought bravely and completely defeated the Maclean forces. This victory meant the Camerons kept their lands. Even so, the Macleans would try to take these lands again in the years that followed.
