Bauhaus was a cool English band that started in Northampton in 1978. They are often called the very first gothic rock band because of their unique dark sound and style. The band members were Peter Murphy (who sang), Daniel Ash (on guitar), Kevin Haskins (on drums), and David J (on bass). When they first started, they were called Bauhaus 1919, but they soon dropped the "1919" part.
Bauhaus first stopped playing together in 1983. Peter Murphy started his own music career. The other members formed new bands like Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets. These new bands actually became more popular in the United States than Bauhaus had been! Bauhaus got back together for a tour in 1998. Then, they reunited again in 2005. They released their last album, Go Away White, in 2008 before breaking up again.
