The community was named after a person called Judge Bayne. He was a "railroad promoter," which means he was someone who helped plan, organize, and encourage the building of railroads. His efforts helped bring the railway to this part of Kansas.
A post office was opened in Bayneville in 1884. A post office is where people can send and receive mail, buy stamps, and sometimes access other government services. This post office served the community for many years until it closed down in 1934.
