The Story of Bayou Teche Brewing
The company first started selling its drinks in January 2010. Karlos Knott, who is the main person in charge of making the drinks, became very interested in making good quality drinks while he was in the Army in Germany. When he came back to the US in 1994, he started trying out making drinks at home.
Creating Unique Flavors
Karlos wanted to create drinks that would taste great with local Cajun and Creole cuisine. These are popular types of food in Louisiana. Bayou Teche Brewing has made 11 different kinds of drinks. Five of these are available all year round.
Awards and Recognition
A website called AskMen even named Bayou Teche as one of the top 10 best small-batch drink makers in the United States. Today, Bayou Teche drinks are sold in five different states. This includes their home state of Louisiana and also New York.
Popular Drinks from Bayou Teche
One of their most famous drinks is the LA-31 Bière Pale. This drink won a Silver Medal in the World Beer Championships in 2013. It scored 89 points out of 100!
LA-31 Bière Pale
Experts who tasted it said it had interesting flavors. It is suggested to be enjoyed with classic Louisiana dishes. These include red beans and rice, jambalaya, gumbo, and hot boudin.
LA-31 Boucanée
Another special drink is LA-31 Boucanée. This one is made for smoked Cajun food. It uses smoked cherrywood, which is a common tree in southern Louisiana. This gives the drink a sweet, smoky taste. It might remind you of being near a campfire!
Acadie
The drink called Acadie is inspired by Cajun culture. It's made in an old French style that was used for seasonal drinks on farms many years ago.
Bière Noire
There's also a year-round drink called "Bière Noire." This one was made using a German style of making dark drinks. It's a great match for grilled food.
Music and Community
Bayou Teche Brewing also supports local artists. They have released several music collections featuring local Cajun musicians.
